In regard to the existing problems in design and construction of public square,this paper puts forward,in term of the environmental ethnology,the theory of demand level,the theory of lookout and shelter and so on,that the design of public square should be "human-oriented" and take care of the need of public psychology,such as reasonable scale,convenient facilities,striking local culture,combined publicity and privacy,so as to create a beautiful and comfortable urban public space.

针对目前城市广场设计和建设中存在的一些问题,从环境行为学、需求层次理论、了望—庇护理论等基本理论分析入手,提出广场设计应该"以人为本",关注大众的行为心理需求,比如尺度合理、设施方便、突出文化特色、公共性与私密性相结合等,创造一个优美、宜人、舒适的城市公共活动空间。
